In the morning of 26 November, the Chief Executive, Chui Sai On, held a meeting with the principal officials to convey the spirit of an important speech by the President Xi Jinping when he received the Hong Kong and Macao delegations in Beijing recently to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the country’s reform and opening up. Chui Sai On indicated that all principal officials must have an in-depth understanding of the major spirit of Xi Jinping’s speech and implement it in the field of work. Besides, they should pay attention and integrate into the overall national development, maximize the advantages of Macao by establishing Macao’s position as “One Centre, One Platform” orientated by the country and actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, so that the community can benefit from the national development to ensure a prosperous and stable development of Macao and the robustness of “One country, two systems”.

The Commission of Audit (CA) invited Mr. Charles Fung, who has been engaged in the audit and accounting work for more than 40 years, to give a lecture to its staff on 20 November, in order to encourage them to update their knowledge and understand the latest situation of audit industry. This lecture aimed to broaden the horizons of the participants and introduced a series of brand-new concepts on the international financial standards from the practical perspectives.

The 10th General Assembly of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (OISC/CPLP) was held in the capital of East Timor, Dili, from 26 to 28 September 2018. The Commissioner of Audit, Ho Veng On, on behalf of the Commission of Audit of Macao SAR Government, attended the assembly as an observer, and discussed the topics related to the theme of the assembly: “The impact of cooperation between public and private institutions on improving the supervision and management work of the Supreme Audit Institutions” with representatives of the Supreme Audit Institutions of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe, and East Timor.

At the invitation of the China National Audit Office (CNAO), the Commissioner of Audit, Ho Veng On, as a member of Chinese delegation, attended the 14th Congress of Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) which was held in Hanoi, Vietnam from 19 to 22 September. The President of Vietnam met with the heads of participating delegations. During the conference, the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, and the Auditor General of CNAO, Hu Zejun, officially took over as the Secretary General of ASOSAI.

From 20 to 21 August, the “Cross-Straits, Hong Kong and Macao Audit Theories and Practices Conference 2018" was held by the China Audit Society in Ordos. More than 40 audit experts and representatives from Cross-Straits, Hong Kong and Macao participated in the conference. The Commission of Audit of Macao Special Administrative Region (CA) was invited to send a delegation to attend and presented thematic papers.

In order to ensure its audit staff to keep pace with the times and update their knowledge, the Commission of Audit (CA) invited a number of experts from China National Audit Office (CNAO) to teach four thematic courses on 9 and 10 July, and shared their experience on related topics.

The Commissioner of Audit, Ho Veng On, visited the Audit Office of Guangdong Province (AOGP) on 14 June and met with the new Director General of AOGP, Lu Rongchun. Both sides exchanged views on the management of government audit works and the auditing deployment in the era of big data, as well as the direction of cooperation in personnel training between the two places.

At the invitation of Macao Development Strategy Research Center, the Commissioner of Audit, Ho Veng On, attended the “Forum on Government Audit Work”, in which he actively exchanged opinions with participants on the issues of public concern, such as pre-audit, the follow-up audit on major project, auditee, and the sharing of government resources.

15 April is National Security Education Day, and Macao hosted its first Educational Exhibition on National Security. In order to strengthen the understanding of overall national security outlook and the effort and achievement of Macao Special Administration Region (SAR) Government in defending national security, all chiefs and directors of Commission of Audit (CA) visited the exhibition at the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao in the evening on 26 April.

The Commissioner of Audit, Ho Veng On, met with the Auditor General of the China National Audit Office (CNAO), Hu Zejun, in Beijing yesterday(17 April). Both sides exchanged views on issues, such as further developing the computer-aided audit system, strengthening technical training for auditors, fully playing Macau’s role as a service platform of trade and business cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and forging closer ties with audit institutions of Portuguese-speaking countries.

To implement actively the government auditing work, expand orderly the coverage of auditing domain and foster the exchange of technology between staff and the industry, the Commission of Audit (CA) recently held an “Audit professional workshop” with the Macau Society of Registered Auditors, with the aim of keeping abreast of the current trends and strengthening the professional technology.

The “Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Audit Conference 2017” organized by the Audit Office of Guangdong Province, was held in Meizhou of Guangdong Province from 10 to 13 November. At the invitation of organizer, the Commissioner of Audit, Ho Veng On, led the delegation to attend the conference, and exchanged views on audit issues of mutual concern with the Director of the Audit Commission of Hong Kong, Sun Tak-kei, the Director General of the Audit Office of Guangdong Province, He Lijuan, and the Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, Lu Rongchun.
