Commission of Audit releases report on 2008 general accounts of the Government

The Commissioner of Audit Ho Veng On reported today (25) before the Legislative Assembly on the 2008 general accounts of the Macau Special Administrative Region Government. The Commissioner confirmed that the financial statements of the General Accounts conformed to the public accounting system and presented in all relevant aspects the result of the budget execution and the financial position as at 31 December 2008, based on the settlements concluded up to the same day.

Ho Veng On said the audit began with examining the revenues and expenses and end-of-year balances of the autonomous organisms, Treasury and other government departments and followed with an examination on whether the Consolidated Revenues and Expenses, Consolidated Balance Sheet and the pertaining Notes presented fairly and completely the operating revenues and expenses and the balances of the same entities. The Commission of Audit also examined the adopted accounting policies, verifying whether they conformed to the public accounting system, whether they were effectively and consistently applied and adequately explained in the Notes. The examination was complemented with a revision in order to assure that the audit procedures covered all relevant risks, that the audit staff carried out and concluded all audit procedures and that all irregularities, in amounts and in nature, in the key aspects have been examined. Finally, based on the audit results reached, the Commissioner expressed an “unqualified opinion”.

The “Audit Report on the General Accounts of 2008” was submitted to the Chief Executive Chui Sai On last month, who further delivered to the Legislative Assembly.
