Rui Barbosa Institute of Brasil visited Macao Commission of Audit

The head of the Rui Barbosa Institute (RBI) of Brazil visited the Macao SAR Commission of Audit (CA) last week. The Commissioner of Audit, Ho Veng On met with the President of the institute, Ivan Bonilha, the Vice-President, Sebastião Helvecio and Mr. Algir Lorenzon; they exchanged views on the topics related to the development of the CA and the promotion of good governance.

The RBI is a supporting entity for the Brazil Audit Court and its responsibilities are conducting educational research in various provincial and local audit courts, staff training, seminars, meetings and various activities; it is also an observer member of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (OISC/CPLP).

Ho Veng On presented to the institute the development of CA in the last 20 years, since the founding of the Macao SAR, as well as the great support given by China National Audit Office in the areas of staff training and computerization. The Commissioner said that the CA maintains permanent contacts with the OISC/CPLP and its members; equally, they have cooperated in holding audit training courses to enable CA staff to know the work of international counterparts and improve audit techniques. The Commissioner emphasized that effective audit of public authorities will contribute to promote good governance, ensure law enforcement and increase transparency of government’s policy. These are the goals that the CA has been committed persistently, as well as public expectations and support of the government audit.

The RBI also visited the University of Macau and met with the Vice Rector, Prof. Rui Martins, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Augusto Garcia and the Director of the Office of Global Affairs, Dr. Lam Yuk Yee.
