Neoh Hwai Beng, director of the Audit Bureau of the Commission of Audit, led a delegation to an audit meeting in which the education sector of Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macau was examined. Held in August 22, in Shaoguan, the meeting was organized by the Audit Department of Guangdong Province, under the framework of the annual Audit Forum between Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macau, and the theme for this year’s edition was “Education Audit — perspectives and practices”.

As the saying “education, the foundation for a hundred years plan”, education is indeed fundamental for the development of the national economy and of the society, without which people’s wellbeing and knowledge could not improve. The Government’s investment in the education sector keeps growing and, on the other hand, the society is also paying more and more attention to how the funds are applied and managed. So an eventual increment of the audit works would very much benefit the reform of the education sector development as well as the growing of soft power for the economic development.

The meeting in Shaoguan was very fruitful for ideas exchange, experience sharing and mutual development of the audit institutions from Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macau. In fact, the debates were very lively in which the participating audit institutions paid special attention to ways of monitoring the application of resources and the subsequent results. Judging from the results, the meeting was also an effective contribution to the education development in the three cities.
